Kylie Mason is a Sydney, Australia-based freelance book editor who began her publishing career with HarperCollinsPublishers Australia before joining Pan Macmillan Australia. During her years as an inhouse editor, she worked with authors such as Jon Cleary, Jackie French, Donna Hay, Katherine Howell, Malla Nunn and Phillip Gwynne.
A freelance editor since 2009, she offers structural and copy editing and proofreading services to both traditional publishers and independent authors. Kylie is an Associate Member of the Institute of Professional Editors. Kylie has a BA in communications and creative writing and an MA in creative writing from the University of Western Sydney. She is a graduate of the 2012 Residential Editorial Program, run by the Australian Publisher’s Association at Varuna, The Writers’ House, in Katoomba, New South Wales. Kylie has also been a reviewer for the Newtown Review of Books. Kylie recently published After The First Draft, a workbook that uses questions and exercises to guide writers to think deeply about their novel to help them edit their own manuscript.
